They talk about "interactions with SCP-1000" as though SCP-1000 might actually be sapient, but then later, it says that they have the brain capacity level of chimpanzees. IDK, even the part about the "sightkill" thing didn't throw me off from the thought that SCP-1000 was a lot smarter than the article was trying to lead me to believe.

Just as an aside, chimps actually ARE sapient. "Sapience" means that a creature is able to think and usually includes measures of self-identification (it thinks of itself as "me" and can recognize itself in a mirror or picture) and some form of language &/or complex tool use, and doesn't actually care about how smart the creature is. Chimps are usually categorized as being about as smart as a 3-year-old, so they're not as smart as humans are, but they're definitely sapient. The exact definition and determinations of sapience vary and are debated among animal researchers, but it's generally agreed that there are several non-human animal species that are sapient, even if they're dumb as bricks compared to humans.
